Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Japan in Georgia! Thank you very much for your visit.
First of all, let me inform you that Japan changed the official name of Georgia in Japanese language from "Gurujia" to "Jojia (Georgia)" on April 22, 2015. With this new momentum, we are resolved to put further efforts for the development of our bilateral relations.
The diplomatic relation between Japan and Georgia was established in 1992 and in Georgia the Embassy of Japan was opened in 2009. I am glad to have assumed my post as the second ambassador of Japan to Georgia in June 2013.
Georgia has long and rich history, beautiful land and nature. People are famous for warm welcoming heart for visitors, "Stumartmokvareoba" in Georgian or "Omotenashi" in Japanese.
We are impressed by the development of Georgia in the spheres of politics, economy and foreign policy in recent years. We highly appreciate the fact that the parliamentary election in 2012, the presidential election in 2013 and the local elections in 2014 demonstrated the steady development of democracy in Georgia.
Japan and Georgia share universal values such as freedom, democracy, respect for human rights, the rule of law and the market economy. Both countries enjoy very good friendly relations. For example, from Georgia to Japan visited Foreign Minister Ms. Panjikidze in 2013 and then President Mr. Margvelashvili in 2014, who held talks with Prime Minister Mr. Abe and issued Joint Statement. Visits from Japan to Georgia are; Prime Minister's Special Envoy – Mr. Makino (Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs) in 2013, Prime Minister's Special Envoy – Mr. Aisawa (President of Japan-Georgia parliamentary friendship league), the mission headed by Mr. Nishioka (the President of the Japan Trade Association ROTOBO) and the mission headed by Ms.Yanagisawa (the General Director of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in 2014 .
Our Embassy is making utmost efforts to bring our countries even closer. We are promoting cooperation in variety of fields such as provision of financial resources including for construction of the East-West Highway and Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. We are actively introducing traditional and contemporary Japanese culture, art, music, film, etc. Our Embassy also supports scholarship programs for Georgian students who are willing to study in Japan.
We will continue such efforts to further strengthen and deepen relations between our countries and peoples.
