In light of the latest visit to the area along the administrative border of South Ossetia by diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia, including the Embassy of Japan in Georgia, the Embassy issues the following statement:

We note with concern the attempts to solidify the present situation by means of installation of barbed-wires, fences and embankments along the administrative borders of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in Georgia.

Regarding South Ossetia and Abkhazia, the international community, together with all the sides of the conflict, currently continues its efforts toward a peaceful solution of the conflict.

Japan consistently supports a peaceful solution of the conflict based on the principle of the territorial integrity of Georgia and considers that actions which discourage efforts toward a peaceful solution should be avoided.
