On the 14th anniversary of the outbreak of the armed conflict in Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia and Abkhazia in August 2008, the Embassy of Japan expresses its deep condolences for the victims of the conflict, and reiterates that Japan consistently supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognized borders.
The embassy is concerned by the humanitarian situation in all conflict-affected areas throughout Georgia and underlines the need for the full implementation of the resolution adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 8 June 2022 "Status of internally displaced persons and refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali region/South Ossetia, Georgia".
Japan opposes any attempts to change Georgia’s internationally recognized borders.
Japan will continue its cooperation with Georgia as an important partner in strengthening the free and open international order based on the rule of law.
