Handover ceremony of Japanese next-generation vehicles for Georgia

On February 2, 2018 the handover ceremony of Japanese next-generation vehicles for Georgia took place at Emergency and Operative Response Center in Tbilisi.
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia H.E. Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs H.E. Mr. Giorgi Gakharia, Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Mr. Mikheil Janelidize, Miniter of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Mayor of Tbilisi Mr. Kakhi Kaladze and other high officials. Japanese side was represented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Georgia H.E. Mr. Tadaharu Uehara, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation Senior Executive Officer Mr. Hiroo Kurihara and others.
The provision of eco-friendly vehicles to the Ministry of Internal Affairs was commended by the Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Giorgi Kvirikashvili as a milestone in terms of adopting high environmental standards in the country and of replenishing the vehicle fleet. Prime Minister thanked Japanese side for the grant.
Ambassador Uehara expressed appreciation for the efforts of those, who took part in completing the project and hoped that the provided vehicles will serve to raise awareness for environmental issues in Georgia.
In March 2015, both governments signed documents on Non-Project Grant Aid for Georgia, which aimed at purchasing new eco-friendly vehicles. 45 units of „Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid“ and 51 units of „Mitsubishi I-Miev electric vehicle“ were purchased by this grant. The amount of this grant is 500 million Yen.
