Rehabilitation Center in Mestia
2019/9/5
Ambassador Uehara: “On behalf of the ordinary Japanese people and the government of Japan, we are delighted to have a chance to express our friendship and appreciation to this very beautiful region and its people.
We join the Government of Georgia’s attempt to revitalize mountainous regions of Georgia and to make our own contribution to the policy of the Development of Mountainous Regions of Georgia.
Families emigrate and abandon their ancestral homes, when the essential life services – such as healthcare and education are not available for their children. This problem is especially acute in the mountainous regions of Georgia – including Svaneti region.
We owe a great deal of respect towards those, who, despite the hardships, bravely remain in Svaneti, making it possible to preserve this unique treasure – the material and intangible cultural heritage, recognized by UNESCO, including the famous Svan towers, but most importantly – its people, who are carriers of the customs, traditions and beautiful folklore of Svaneti.”
On September 3/2019, the first Rehabilitation Center for Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region was opened, to provide rehabilitation services for disabled persons of all ages. The project was implemented with the support of Mestia Mayor – Kapiton Zhorzholiani and implemented by the organization “Together for Real Changes”
