Mr. Ilia DARCHIASHVILI, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
1. About 40% of territory of Georgia is covered by forest. Steep lands and old-fashioned fire engines are obstacles to firefighting activities. Colchic Rainforests and Wetlands in East-southern part of Georgia are listed as UNESCO natural heritage for their precious bio-diversity. However, due to climate change number of forest fire increases drastically. In mountainous areas roads are blocked for several weeks in winter season due to heavy snowfall. Therefore, improvement of disaster prevention is an urgent issue.
