H.E. Mr. ISHIZUKA Hideki’s Opening Speech at the 2024 National Day Reception on the occasion of the Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor
2024/3/4
Gamardjobat!
Today, it is my great honour to welcome you here to join us in celebrating the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan as the National Day.
Ladies and gentlemen,
On February 23rd, His Majesty the Emperor will celebrate his 64th birthday.
During the past year, His Majesty the Emperor, together with Her Majesty the Empress, has been dedicated to the country and its people, sharing their joys and sorrows. One of the shared sorrows would be the Noto Peninsula Earthquake that occurred on New Year’s Day, but we received warm messages of sympathy from many people across the world as well as the dignitaries and people of Georgia. As Ambassador of Japan to Georgia, I would like to once again express my heartfelt gratitude to Georgia.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Today on this auspicious occasion, let me make three celebrations in addition.
First of all, I would like to celebrate 15-year anniversary of the Embassy of Japan in Georgia. I appreciate Georgia is a friendly and important country for Japan to share same values and I would like to express my gratitude to the Government and People of Georgia for supporting the Embassy and the people of Japan here in Georgia. The embassy was established in January 2009 in the aftermath of the conflict in 2008.
I reiterate that Japan consistently supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
Japan will continue to promote diplomacy to maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law so that all people can enjoy peace and prosperity, and to realize a safe and secure world where human dignity is protected.
Second, I would like to welcome and congratulate on EU’s unanimous decision to grant the candidate status to Georgia in the last December. Because Japan is a third country, I have refrained from making direct comments. However, in the context of Japan-EU Strategic Partnership, and in view of trade and investment between Japan and EU, I expect Georgia's integration to EU would surely make bilateral ties between Japan and Georgia further stronger.
Third, I would like to congratulate on the 57th ADB annual meeting in Tbilisi in this May. Japan is the one of the largest contributors to ADB, and bilaterally Japan is also supporting Georgia’s socio-economic development since its independence. In view of huge potentiality of renewable energy and the significance of middle corridor, Japan can be ready to make further cooperation with Georgia to share its high-technology and know-hows. Especially, it is worth mentioning that the First Joint Committee of Joint Crediting Mechanism was successfully held in this January. I hope eco-friendly joint projects will be coming soon.
DIDI MADLOBA!
