~Frequently Asked Questions~
・Who can apply for the Visa in Georgia?Please note that Embassy of Japan in Georgia is accepting visa applications from citizens and residents of Georgia, so all the non-Georgian applicants need to submit a document proving the status of your residency (i.e. Residence Permit) along with the necessary documents.
・How long does Japan visa take to be issued?
The standard processing period, when it does not have any problem on contents of the application, takes five working days from the next day after the date of the acceptance of application. Meanwhile, it may take longer than usual if a large number of visa applications converge at a short-time period.
※Requests to expedite visa processing due to imminent travel dates will not be accepted. Please apply well in advance of your travel date.
・How much is Visa fee?
Non- Georgia citizens (with Residence Permit in Georgia) will be charged. Please consult with the Consular Section staff regarding visa fee in advance.
・Passport Validity
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you are staying in Japan. Although Japan does not have six-month mandatory validity of passports for ordinary passports, some countries have such requirements. Therefore, please check in advance with the relevant airline companies to avoid any problem your travel.
・My departure date is approaching so can you issue the visa as soon as possible?
We cannot make a decision about whether to issue or reject the visa application until the necessary examination has been completed. We process the applications fairly in the order in which we received them. Apply for the visa as soon as possible, at least one month before your planned visit.
・I want to postpone my travel. Until when is my visa valid?
The period of validity of a single-entry visa (that becomes invalid as soon as once you enter Japan) is basically three months. Enter Japan within three months of the issuance of the visa. If you wish to postpone your travel for longer than three months, you will be required to make another visa application.

Application for Police Certificate
Police Certificate attests one's criminal record in Japan. It is issued by the National Police Agency solely when authorities in other countries require submission of this certificate for applications such as permanent residency, based on that country's laws. They are intended for Japanese nationals and foreign nationals with a history of residence in Japan.
【Issuance Timeframe】
When applied for at an embassy abload, the application for a Police Certificate is forwarded to the National Police Agency via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. As the certificate is prepared by the National Police Agency, it takes approximately 2 to 3 months from application to receipt of the certificate.
※Those requiring the certificate urgently or needing it before departure should refer to the procedures within Japan (at a Prefectural Police Headquarters).

・Fingerprints will be taken during the application process; please allow ample time.
・Depending on the reason for application, you may be required to submit the relevant country's legal basis or supporting documents (such as a letter from the submitting authority confirming the requirement for a police certificate) confirming that submission of a police certificate is mandated.
・Depending on the submitting authority, an Apostille may be required. Please confirm this in advance and inform us at the time of application if necessary.
・There is no fee for the police certificate.
