Kyogen Demonstration in Nikozi Village

2024/6/4

On June 4, the Embassy of Japan in Georgia held a "Kyogen demonstration" event in the village of Nikozi, located in the Gori municipality, near the occupation line in Georgia. The event was led by two Japanese performers who currently reside in Sweden – stage actress Ms. Yuu KOMAKI and tea ceremony master Ms. Toshiko OHNER (Tea Master name “SOHO”).
In his speech, Ambassador of Japan H.E. Mr. ISHIZUKA Hideki spoke on the significance of cultural exchange through Kyogen, a traditional Japanese performing art.
His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Nikozi and Tskhinvali, of Nikozi Cathedral, near which the event was held, expressed his gratitude. In addition to the Ambassador and his spouse, 110 people attended the event, including children attending the Art School, which was rebuilt through the grassroots project "Construction of social educational centre in Nikozi village of Gori district", as well as local residents.
The event included a short Kyogen dance "Komai" performance by Ms. KOMAKI, and a hands-on experience of Japanese traditional performing arts by local children.
