2024 Press tour for local media

On July 29, 2024, Press tour for local media was held. In addition to 13 journalists and cameramen from 9 newspapers, online agencies & TV stations in Georgia, the event was also attended by the Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, Head of the Forestry Agency of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, and others.
In the A/R of Adjara, the parties visited two Grassroots Human Security Grant Projects: “Project for Provision of Heavy Equipment for Forest Fire Response and Prevention in Adjara” and “Project for Establishment of Greenhouse for Growing Tangerines in Autonomous Republic of Adjara”, as well as FY2022 supplementary budget “Support for Decarbonization and Climate Change Response Measures for Developing Countries through International Organizations, etc.".
This press tour was designed to increase opportunities for Japanese development assistance to be covered in the local media and to enhance information dissemination to Georgian government officials and citizens.

Additional Information regarding the Press Tour
During this tour, participants first visited the “Project for Provision of Heavy Equipment for Forest Fire Response and Prevention in Adjara” in Batumi. The main objective of this project is to strengthen disaster response capacity and prevention, as well as stabilize socio-economic activities in the Adjara, by providing heavy equipment for responding and preventing forest fires, which lately have become a problem in the Autonomous Republic.
Next was “Project for Establishment of Greenhouse for Growing Tangerines in Autonomous Republic of Adjara”, in Chakvi. The main objective of this project is protection of farmers’ livelihoods and increase of their profits by enabling the cultivation of mandarin seedlings with reduced use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides through the construction of a single Greenhouse (840 m2)
Finally, the tour participants visited Machakhela National Park to see the results of the project “Support for Decarbonization and Climate Change Response Measures for Developing Countries through International Organizations, etc." The main objective of this project is promotion of GX (Green Transformation) and its underlying climate change adaptation measures, including decarbonization in countries vulnerable to climate change risks, with the purpose of contribution to decarbonization and resilience to climate change risks. The tour included home visits to the female residents who received assistance through this project. The media saw the solar panels and solar water heaters installed under this program and were briefed on the cooperation provided by the Japan and UNDP. Female residents told journalists that the project has eliminated the need to use trees for fuel and improved the surrounding environment, and that the project has been economically very beneficial to them.
Upon conclusion of the press tour many articles and TV reports were published, through which we were able to communicate Japan’s development assistance efforts to a wide range of readers and viewers.
