Visit of Ms. Makishima Karen, a member of the House of Representatives, and Mr. Kawasaki Hideto, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Digital Transformation

Ambassador Ishizuka Hideki, together with Ms. Makishima Karen, a member of the House of Representatives (Former Minister for Digital Transformation), and Mr. Kawasaki Hideto, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Digital Transformation, who visited Georgia from 20 to 23 December, held meetings with Georgian counterparts. The main highlights of the visit are as follows.
(1) On December 20, Ambassador Ishizuka, together with Ms. Makishima and Mr. Kawasaki, visited Business and Technology University (BTU). During the meeting with Ms. Nino Enukidze, Rector of BTU, the participants discussed cooperation in the field of digital technology and the promotion of future collaborative relationships with Japanese research institutions and companies. In addition, an exchange of views was held with a former Japanese digital nomad and members of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV).
Rector Enukidze also explained that, with the support of UN Women and funding from the Government of Japan, BTU implemented a program providing empowerment and IT skills training to Ukrainian refugee women residing in Georgia.

(2) On December 22, Ambassador Ishizuka, together with Ms. Makishima and Mr. Kawasaki, held a meeting with Mr. Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament of Georgia (the Head of the Georgia-Japan Friendship Group), and Mr. Irakli Mezurnishvili, Member of the Parliament of Georgia (a member of the Georgia-Japan Friendship Group) at the Parliament of Georgia. During the meeting, the participants discussed the development of friendly relations between Japan and Georgia, the further activization of inter-parliamentary exchanges, and cooperation between the municipalities of the two countries.

(3) On December 23, Ambassador Ishizuka, together with Ms. Makishima and Mr. Kawasaki held a meeting with Mr. Alexander Khvtisiashvili, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. During the meeting, the participants discussed the current situation of Japan-Georgia relations, cooperation in disaster prevention and digital technology, and future bilateral cooperation, including the World Horticultural Exhibition YOKOHAMA 2027.

(4) Additionally, Ms. Makishima and Mr. Kawasaki held meetings with the representatives of the Resorts Development Agency, Imereti Region, Tskaltubo Municipality, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Finance, the Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA), Company “Silknet JSC”, the Ministry of Justice and the Public Service Hall.
