Visit of Representatives of the Japan-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship League to Georgia

On May 4-7, Mr. AISAWA Ichiro, Member of the House of Representatives of Japan (Chairman of the Japan-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship League) and Mr. TAIRA Masaaki, Member of the House of Representatives of Japan (Member of the Japan-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship League) visited Georgia.
A summary of the visit is as follows:
(1)On May 5th, Mr. AISAWA Ichiro, Member of the House of Representatives, and Mr. TAIRA Masaaki, Member of the House of Representatives, held a meeting with the Speaker of the parliament of Georgia Mr. Shalva Papuashvili. During the meeting, parties discussed political, economic and cultural environment of Georgia and the development of friendly relations between the two countries.

(2)On the same day, the two delegates held a meeting with Mr. Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee (Chairman of the Georgia-Japan Parliamentary Friendship League) and other members of the Friendship League. At the meeting, discussions were held on the international and regional situation surrounding Georgia, the development of friendly relations between Japan and Georgia, and the further exchanges between the parliaments of the two countries.

(3) On the same day, the delegates visited the Technology Park of Georgia's Innovation and Technology Agency (GITA) to observe activities to support the creation of an innovation ecosystem in Georgia, followed by lunch-meeting with GITA executives and IT company officials, where they exchanged opinions on Japan-Georgia economic relations and business.

(4) Afterwards, Mr. AISAWA and Mr. TAIRA held the meeting with Ilya Darchiashvili, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia. At the meeting, the current Japan-Georgia relations, global and regional affairs, and future development of cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

(5) On the same day, Mr. AISAWA also visited the UNHCR Georgia Office and exchanged views with resident representative Mr. Kemlin Furley on the current situation of refugee issues in Georgia. In parallel, Mr. TAIRA visited the Public Service Hall to see the one-stop-shop service system in which many administrative procedures can be completed in one place.

(6) On May 6th, Members of the House of Representatives Mr. AISAWA Ichiro and Mr. TAIRA Masaaki, together with the EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) representatives visit the Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) with the Tskhinvali region (South Ossetia), an occupied region of Georgia. Afterwards, both of the members moved to Zemo Nikozi Village and visited the Nikozi Village Clinic, where medical equipment was provided by the Government of Japan under the framework of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. Mr. Ichiro Aisawa, a member of the House of Representatives, made a speech on behalf of the Japanese side, and the clinic staff expressed their appreciation for Japan's assistance.
