Ambassador Ishizuka's address at the “Japanese Culture Festival” in Batumi

On July 28, Ambassador of Japan, H.E. ISHIZUKA Hideki attended “Japanese Culture Festival”, held in Batumi.
After the national anthems of both countries, the festival presented performances of Japanese songs, demonstration of karate, as well as “Adjaruli”, a traditional Georgian dance.
At the beginning, the Ambassador introduced the bilateral ties between the two countries, referring to the Japanese food “Washoku” and Georgia's Qvevri wine making process, both of which were inscribed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2013. He then presented the character for “Heart” in Shodo – Japanese calligraphy.
Ambassador ISHIZUKA mentioned that Batumi was one of the first places in Europe to start building a Japanese garden, and thanked city of Batumi for its’ long-lasting role in introducing Japanese culture to the people and serving as a place for cultural exchange of “Heart” between the two countries. The Ambassador also talked to audience about the importance of further promotion of cultural exchange between Japan and Georgia.
