Foreign Minister’s Commendations for FY 2025: Professor Nana Gelashvili (Head of Direction of Far East Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Tbilisi State University)
On August 28, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan announced the recipients of Foreign Minister’s Commendation for the Japanese fiscal year 2025. From Georgia, Dr. Nana Gelashvili, Head of Direction of Far East Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Tbilisi State University was selected as a recipient for her significant contributions to the promotion of Japanese studies in the country.
Dr. Nana Gelashvili, as the Head of Direction of Far East Studies of the Faculty of Humanities at Tbilisi State University, has long contributed to the promotion of the Japanese culture and Japanese language studies at the university. One of the most outstanding of her contributions is the establishment of the Japanese Studies major program at the university in 2023.
She has organized international conferences at the university to introduce Japanese culture, history and politics, greatly contributing to the promotion of mutual understanding and friendly relations between Japan and Georgia.
On August 29, Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Ishizuka Hideki delivered his congratulations on Dr. Nana Gelashvili through a phone call, praising her longstanding dedication to the development of Japanese language education and cultural exchange.
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups with outstanding achievements in international fields, in order to acknowledge their contributions to the promotion of friendship between Japan and other countries and areas. The Commendations also aim to promote the understanding and support of the Japanese public for the activities of the recipients.
