Call for Applications for the 3rd Japanese Language Speech Contest

The Embassy of Japan in Georgia will hold the 3rd Japanese Speech Contest at Free University of Tbilisi on 14 December (Sunday), 2025. This Contest offers participants an opportunity to present the results of their daily Japanese language studies. It is also aimed at deepening understanding of Japan through interaction between Japanese learners and giving motivation for further Japanese language studies.

- Application Period:
- 3 November (Monday) – 19 November (Wednesday), 2025
- Notes:
- In the speech contest, the three categories are established: beginner, intermediate, and advanced, although those categories might be combined or divided depending on the number of applicants. In the case of a large number of applicants, the application screening may be conducted and/or the other category is allocated to an applicant. The embassy will notify the applicants of the screening results and the allocated category by e-mail on 21 November 2025.
- Topics for Each Category:
- Beginner Category:「日本/ジョージアの好きなことわざ」 /「日本語の好きな表現」 ※Select one of the two (time limit: 3 min)
- Intermediate Category: 「日本人が気付いていない日本語の魅力」 /「日本語の面白いところ」※Select one of the two (time limit: 4 min)
- Advanced Category: 「お薦めしたい日本の本」/ 「日本語の力」 ※Select one of the two (time limit: 4 min)
- Special Notes:
- Presenters must deliver their speech from memory. (Points will be deducted for reading)
- After each speech, the Jury members will ask questions regarding the speech. The answers will also be evaluated.
- Presenters must refrain from performances such as singing, dancing, poetry recitation, or use of presentation slides
- Eligibility for Application:
- An applicant must have Georgian citizenship.
- Japanese language teachers, regardless of in-service or retired, are not allowed to participate.
- Past winners are not allowed to participate in the same category (however, they may participate in the higher category than the one they participated in previously).

- Those who have studied in Japan for more than one year will be placed in the Advanced Category.
- Evaluation/Judging criteria
- The Jury members will conduct evaluation based on the criteria given below
- A: Contents of the speech (40 points)
- Originality (In addition to facts or general information, contestant’s own opinion will be evaluated)
- Depth of the argument
- Consistency and logic of the topic and overall structure
- B: Presentation ability (30 points)
- Pronunciation and intonation
- Presentation ability and expressiveness
- C: Answering the questions (30 points)
- Ability to express in Japanese Language
- Accuracy of the answer to the question

- Certificates of Commendation will be awarded to the following individuals in each category:
- Winner
- Runner-up
- Third Place
- Additionally, the following individuals will be selected across all the categories and awarded corresponding certificates:
